Pledge Reflection

Pledging was not what I expected. I thought I could handle it easily but I was wrong. I have learned so much about being a leader and brotherhood within a small group. Working with different types of mindsets and people has opened my eyes to the business world. I've worked at many retail stores and had a lot of customer service experience, receiving 2nd place for my internship project. However, I felt that this pledging experience has taught me more than my internship, if not equal. My time management skills have improved significantly, including my priority management. I do not regret this pledging experience and learned how to use several excel functions. My most proudest achievement is being able to give back to my brothers my experience with excel, management, service, pledging, and voice of wisdom with different perspectives.
Mr. Deric Li, President
One has to know his/her strengths and weaknesses to succeed in life. Pledging for Delta Sigma Pi helped me figure out my strengths and improve on my weaknesses.  Skills related to presentation, leadership and time management were cultivated during this process. We also learned the importance of working as a team and not as a group. This process has given me life long connections, fine memories and outstanding brothers. The skills and connections I have acquired from this process will help me succeed in life.
- Mr. Aakash Saparia, S‍enior Vice President
Pledging has been my crash course into adulthood. Never would I have thought I would grow into a stronger person in such a short amount of time. Pledging has taught me that when things get thrown at you last minute you either react or let it pass you by. I wasn't used to meeting short notice deadlines, but this process has taught me how to think quickly and get everything done. I am thankful for the pledging process and can't wait for what is in store if and when I cross into the Fraternity.
- Ms. Elizabeth Medina-Alvarez, Vice President of Professional Activities
Pledging for Delta Sigma Pi is one of the hardest and most rewarding experiences I have gone through. I came in looking to better myself overall, but I have gained so much more. These past nine weeks has helped me face my fear and shown my capabilities. Through the tears, arguments, and long nights I gain lifetime friends who will be by my side through thick and thin. I found a support system that has built confidence in the way I speak and present myself. I had trouble believing in myself my whole life, I can finally say I am proud of what I have accomplished and who I have become throughout this process. I want to take this experience and continue to do the same for others.
- Ms. Stephanie Nguyen, Vice President of Community Service
Pledging has taught me to realize internal and external resources and how to utilize them in the planning and executing of tasks. With pledging I've been able to become a person of responsibility and direction, someone who I unfortunately was not, prior to this process. I am grateful for how pledging has moulded my character and am excited to extend my efforts as a future brother if the fraternity, should I cross.
- Mr. Nam Vu, Vice President of Finance
Since the beginning, pledging has been incredibly eventful and filled with unexpected surprises. It has been a great roller coaster with each low, higher than the previous low. I entered this process as a shy, soft-spoken individual with no sense of direction and this process has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and be confident wearing different shoes. I have learned so much about myself and what works for me and what I need to improve on. I have made connections that I did not think would be possible in 8 weeks. The relationship with me and my parents has been tested numerous times, but yet it has only grown for the better. The trust and respect has grown from both sides. I have learned so much about professionalism and how to better present myself. I am really glad that I have experienced this process and I am even more grateful to face this process with my pledge brothers.
- Ms. Leanne Rios, Vice President of Financial Development
Coming into this pledging process, I knew I needed to learn three things. One, to be more efficient and productive with my time. Two, be able to communicate at a professional level, and three deliver meaningful and engaging presentations with confidence. Throughout my experience in this organization, I have definitely learned all three. Being a pledge in Delta Sigma Pi has challenged me in all three of these areas, allowing me to grow and mature into a business professional. In my opinion, this fraternity has prepared me to be successful in the commercial world.
-Mr. Brandon Madera, Vice President of Public Relations
The biggest contributors for me still being here are definitely my pledge brothers. We are what seem like a group of rag tag misfits who just somehow make it work. These are young capable individuals who have immense amounts of potential. When I first met them it felt almost as though I could have guessed that these people would be here. In all honesty, these are people I probably would have never talked to if it was not for pledging. Now, I could not picture life without them. Thanks to my Bi, my pledge Mom, and my pledge brothers, I am still here with no thoughts of leaving. They have understood my struggles for this semester and my goals. They have picked up where I have slacked and pushed me to explore viewpoints not my own. As of the last week, I had to take time off to catch up on my educational goals. My routine had not changed much. But through all the chaos, I would not trade this experience for anything in the world.
- Mr. Ujwal Battar, Vice President of Corporate Sponsorship
Pledging has been the most difficult but one of the most fun experiences that I have ever had. I have pushed myself to new limits of workload, professionalism, and willpower. I have accomplished things that I would not have been able to before like hold events and lead groups of people. I have skills that I wouldn't have otherwise. I can now more comfortably speak in front of a crowd or manage my time. I couldn't have done any of it without having my pledge bros to learn and grow with.
- Mr. Dylan Ingalsbe, Vice President of Social Development
Pledging with my class has brought us so much closer together. When I first started, my class was full of strangers. Eventually these strangers grew into my pledge brothers whom I would share my college career with. Everyone is different, and each of my brothers have taught me patience, kindness, and resilience. These lessons unite us as a pledge class and give all of us the tools to succeed in life. The memories made with my pledge brothers are ones I will remember forever.
- Mr. Vincent Dinh, Director of Communication
The pledging process for DSP is tough but very worth it in the long run. I have learned a lot about myself and my abilities while working with a group of strangers (that I now call family). There is a lot of sacrifices to be made but this allows you to prioritize and time manage, which is a valuable skill that I lacked before coming into the pledging process. I always avoided working with large teams in part because of little experience, but having gone this far into pledging I have significantly improved my well being and professional skills.
- Mr. Christian Ventura-Martinez, Head of Logistics
From getting a bid, to entering the last couple of weeks, pledging has been bittersweet. I never expected to have accomplished so much in an eight-week period. These two months have flown by and I already wish I could go back and relive some of our infinite moments. I’ve become more open-minded to meeting new people and building relationships. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to work with these driven individuals and be able to call them my brothers.
- Ms. Samantha Yee, Chancellor
The pledging process has overall helped me navigate where I stand emotionally, mentally, and professionally. Through the spectrum of meetings, study sessions, and late night spam-masubi crams, I.N.F.I.N.I.T.E. has grown to become a group of young motivated professionals ready to fulfill their potential in making a difference. This entire process has been a roller coaster ride with thrills and uncertainty, which has ultimately helped built character for each and every individual in the pledge class. I have witnessed a lot of growth among my pledge brothers. It makes me proud to look back on what we have accomplished and say that we have made an advancement toward our common goal of being part of the greater good.
- Ms. Rosina Htoy, Historian
Many years in the future, I will look back on my college years with love and fondness because of the unforgettable experience I had pledging for Delta Sigma Pi. I was originally interested in order to build my professional skills, but I have gained so much more. I have challenged myself to new lengths, and I have overcame obstacles that I once thought were impossible to overcome. I am so proud of not only myself, but also my pledge brothers who have given me the opportunity to journey alongside them in our quest of becoming business professionals. Because of pledging, I have gained lifelong friends and skills that go beyond what can be written on a resume.
